The last home of the Asiatic lion
Gir is the only place on earth where Asiatic lions still live in the wild. Teak and dry deciduous forest roll across 1,412 sq km, broken by the Hiran and Shingoda rivers and Maldhari settlements. Mornings start with a gypsy safari at first light; afternoons are slow, with kesar mango orchards, village walks and the sound of peafowl.
